Inspiration Point Overlook

16498 Hwy 62 West
Eureka Springs, AR 72632

Located right next to Castle Antiques and always open to the sky, fresh air, sun, stars and you, Inspiration Point is a panoramic view located just 5 scenic miles west of Eureka Springs on Highway 62. There is no charge to enjoy this extravagance of nature, and people have been known to soak up its beauty at all hours of the day or night.

This favorite overlook sits on a cliff 550 steep feet above the twisting White River and its green valley, with an exceptionally broad expanse of sky above. The river forms a horseshoe curve just below Inspiration Point, but because of rampant foliage, that is most clear when you study a map. If you take the time to look, the horseshoe can also be seen as a perfect omega shape which, it has been said, was a sacred symbol for the Osage Indians.

The Point received its name in 1932, when the ridge it sits on was known locally as Rock Candy Mountain, but it surely was a vantage point for early Indian travelers and inhabitants of the area. Inspiration Point is also a federally documented, year-round nesting habitat for American bald eagles, giving us another reason to see the appropriateness of its name!

This is the only turnout open to the public on Highway 62 where you can stop to enjoy such a magnificent vista. The Ozark Mountains weave before you on the western horizon, mists often rise mysteriously from the river in early morning, and our glorious evening sunsets are certainly inspiring. Inspiration Point is also a fabulous spot for watching oncoming storms and weather changes. Be sure not to miss “THE BEST VIEW ON HIGHWAY 62”, and bring your camera!
